Has your child gotten the chicken pox even though they were vaccinated?

by chicken pox pictures

What were their symptoms? Did their spots itch? My son has had the vaccine, but woke up with raised red bumps on his groin area. These bumps have spread up his torso and are now up to his neck. He says they only itch once in a while. I am taking him to the doctor tomorrow, but was curious if anyone else has had the same thing happen?

I did when I was a kid same thing as you described…and it sucked! The vaccine doesn’t prevent them from getting it, it just makes it less severe or deadly when they do get it.

My child hasn’t had either, but yes you can still get the chicken pox even though you have already been vaccinated. The vaccine is not 100%.

    YES!!
I went and got the vaccine when I was like 8, and the next day my chest was covered in little bumps. They itched a little, and went away within a few hours. It was all VERY mild.

My daughter woke up with tiny pimplelike bumps on her shoulders….maybe 10 of them. They didn’t bother her at all and she had no fever but I called the peditrician. He said it sounded like they COULD be the pox but wasn’t sure and would need to check her out. ……she was around tons of other kids that day, some without the vaccine and nobody came down with the pox.

They were gone the next day….so who knows?!

30% of children who recieve the vaccine will still get the chicken pox but in a less severe form.
Wish you lived close… becaus I would love to expose my children (our ped. agrees). Its good for them to get a small case now then possibly grow up and have an even worse case.

My 10yr and 8yr both ended up with the chicken pox even though they were vaccinated. It’s a waste. I didn’t even bother doing it for my younger two kids…might as well get it now so it’s over with. It’s shingles and REALLY BAD if you get it as an adult. What your describing sounds like chicken pox and in the beginning they aren’t all that itchy…but they spread quickly. Take him to doctor tomorrow as you said and you’ll end up having to get him medicine for it.
    Best Wishes =]

Growing up, no one in our school ever got the chicken pox (granted I grew up in a small town where the total number of kids K-12th grade numbered only like 400 kids, but there was never a case of chicken pox in the school. Our school system here has a mandatory vaccination policy though, so that probably had a lot to do with it.

My oldest got the chickenpox vaccine when she was 15 months old and 2 weeks later she had red spots on her chest, back and face. They were only midly itchy (seemed like) and werent puss filled or anything. It was a reaction to the shots which they told me was normal. They also said since she had that reaction she wouldnt have to have that optional 2nd one at 4 years old. My youngest got her chickenpox vaccine at 15 months old also, and now 3 months later has never had anything happen. I think what your son is experiencing is just a reaction to the vaccine because if it doesnt look like the picture the other poster provided, doesnt itch terribly and he doesnt have a fever then it is not full blown chickenpox.

Good luck to you and hope your son is feeling better soon!

All of my (four) children have gotten the vaccination. I always just figured I might as well try it if it could avoid having an extreme case like I did as a child. My oldest child (9) has had the chickenpox THREE times AFTER receiving the vaccine. Two of my other children have also gotten chickenpox at different times. I have also gotten it with each child since I am on immunosuppressants but luckily a very minor case each time.

Chickenpox usually starts on the trunk and spreads. They look like little red pumps with some discharge inside. Like a zit in a way. Try using Benadryl to help with the itching and calamine lotion is still a good alternative. I did use oatmeal (Aveeno) baths on my 9 yr old.
