try sitz bath in warm water, you can lightly rub a very soft cloth over your skin in the water, that feels good. or the tried and true calamine lotion.
There’s this stuff called Aveno bath or Aveno bar that is supposed to help control the itch. One thing I always heard was that if you couldn’t help from scratching the pox, don’t use fingernails…rub the pock with the palm of your hand softly so that it doesn’t break open and spread.
You can treat the miserable symptoms of chicken pox by soaking in an oatmeal bath or using a product made by Aveeno. Just the time spent in a bathtub filled with warm water helps to get one’s mind off the constant itching and pain. After soaking, lightly and gently apply Calamine lotion to affected areas. Be sure to trim the patient’s fingernails to lessen the chance that the pustules will become infected. If infection should occur, an antibiotic may be necessary.
Another recommendation is to use an over-the-counter antihistimine to lessen the itching and discomfort, as well. Sometimes the pain is so intense, depending on where the pustules break out, that a prescritpion pain-killer from your physician is necessary.
Treat the fever with a non-aspirin medication (like tylenol). Never give aspirin to a child with chickenpox because it can cause Reye’s syndrome , a potentially fatal illness.
Oftentimes the patient loses her/his appetite. It’s important to drink plenty of fluids: juice, water, milk, chicken broth, popsicles, etc., and see that the patient gets plenty of rest!
