My nearly 3 year old has chicken pox. She started with a cold and a temperature, but this was over a week ago, and 2 days ago she started coming out in the spots. She has been itching a little but not drastically. Today she was looking a little grey and under the weather, whereas yesterday she was still full of beans, despite the spots. I have put her in bed tonight and she keeps waking up crying and is a little warm and shivery.
Is it normal for them to get a temperature again so many days after the spots start coming out, or is she is suffering from a secondary infection?

a lot of itching
As long as the spots are still sprouting out her body is likely to be working on fighting the infection. People have different degrees of discomfort with chicken pox, but I was in my early twenties when I got them; and I recall first seeing some spots, then getting really sick (dizzy, “out of it”, etc.) before the rest came in. They came in in what seemed like phases/groups.
The itching comes more when they’re not brand new.
With a child as young as three, I think you should give her doctor a call, tell him/her what’s going on, and get a recommendation for anything you can do for her discomfort/symptoms.
